Artist Statement:
Originally a sculptor, I ventured into pottery to fulfill my desire to create functional art. The rhythm of the spinning potter's wheel allowed a flow that blended well with my years of musical training. I then discovered that glaze chemistry appealed to the mad scientist aspects of my personality. I take great joy of taking a lump of earth and turning it into something visually stimulating. I experience even greater joy when showing my work, entertaining my patrons, and helping others to smile.

Biography:
I have been a serious student of the arts from early elementary school through high school. After graduation I began a 25 year career in the computer industry. In 1990 and 1991, I lived and worked in Naples , Italy , and developed a strong affection for working with clay . Upon my return to the United States , I enrolled in multiple classes at the Cealde School of Art and apprenticed for several years with a sculptor, David Cumbie, and several more years with an Oviedo potter, John Margerum.

I began working the art show circuit, part time, in 1996. I left from my corporate job in May of 1998 and have been full time, as a studio potter, since that time. I have won first place in four Florida shows, the Boynton GALA, Homosassa Springs, Maitland Rotary, and the Bradenton Festival, along with many lesser awards, including the Mary Catherine Jones Best Display Award at the Space Coast Art Festival.

I am primarily a stoneware potter, however, because of my background as a sculptor, I often decorate my work with carvings or sculptures. I've designed and built my award-winning booth out of cedar. I find that, besides smelling great, the cedar display gives my work an earthy quality. I love creating something of value out of dirt (clay). This concept is what first compelled me to work with clay.

I have been married for 30 years to Sandy, a wonderful woman and mother of our two adult offspring. Sandy is my life and business partner
